The Washington Redskins tried everything they could do, but it seems like Quinton Dunbar's exit from the team is inevitable as they are now openly shopping him this offseason.
There's news circulating around the grapevine that Ron Rivera and the Redskins have been trying to package the disgruntled corner into a possible trade package that may or may not involve picks for the coming draft.
Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, they join the Philadelphia Eagles in shopping the corner that once was a shining star on an otherwise disappointing Redskins team this season.
Dunbar is a talented corner who forced his way into the league after going undrafted in 2015. Through five years and 58 games with the Redskins, he managed to rack up an impressive 150 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and nine interceptions. The fact that he was an impact player but still went undrafted is a testament to how much of a guess the entire draft process can be as a hit-and-miss affair.
Rivera highly rated Dunbar's abilities and saw him as a key figure in the Washington locker room, but this action revealed that they cannot make the man budge. The new Washington head coach had this to say of Dunbar, via Ethan Cadeaux of NBC Sports Washington:
“I think he's a guy that most certainly [could be a core guy],” Rivera said. “The thing is that I hope everyone understands, I don't know this group of guys. I really don't. You've got to be able to go out there and assess the talent. Whether they fit what you want to fit. At the end of the day, I think everyone has to understand that, come together and show everybody whether you fit or not.”
Whoever gets Dunbar in the offseason will be getting a talented corner who wants a change of scenery. Hopefully, he'll be able to keep this form of performance up with his new team.
