When Alex Smith suffered compound fractures in his leg during the 2018 season, his chances to play in the NFL again appeared bleak. After activating Smith from the team's PUP list on Sunday, Washington's Twitter account released a video of Smith's long-awaited return.

Just the simple fact that Smith is able to walk again is an impressive feat considering what he's had to endure over the past two years. But after an asinine amount of surgeries and hours of rehab, Smith did what seemed to be impossible and is back on the field with Washington.

Of course, Dwayne Haskins is expected to be the starter in Week 1 when Washington faces the Philadelphia Eagles. Not to mention, Washington is going to be understandably cautious with Smith to begin training camp.

Seeing Smith spin a football again should be extremely inspiring to anyone. While he has a ways to go before he plays in a meaningful game, Smith is inching closer to achieving his ultimate goal of playing in an NFL game again.
