The availability of Detroit Pistons point guard Reggie Jackson for the start of the season is unclear due to tendinitis in his left knee. Now the uncertainty has gone beyond the team's first few games as there is a chance he might miss a huge chunk of the season as well.

ESPN's Marc Stein first reported the news and of the Pistons' potential to look for another point guard from the free-agent market to address their backcourt depth:

The Motor City faithful had been very optimistic with their team's chances this year given key additions to the roster. Boban Marjanovic and Ish Smith were the Pistons' major signings over the summer to bolster the lineup, but without their starting point guard, the mountain they had to climb to make a deeper run in the playoffs just became steeper.

Since his arrival from the Oklahoma City Thunder a year ago, the Boston College product developed into a star and a leader the Pistons hoped for him to be. He led the team in assists per outing last season with 6.2 and averaged a career-best 18.8 points per game to go along with it.

The majority of the minutes at the point is expected to be given to Smith, should Reggie Jackson miss an extended period of time. But being new to the team and still learning Stan Van Gundy‘s system, it will a major test for him to run the offense and help the team win games.
