Ricardo Lamas was a UFC featherweight during a time when the division was still new. He fought many big and important names including Jose Aldo and Max Holloway. Conor McGregor was not part of those names.
Ricardo Lamas could have been one of the names that faced Conor McGregor in the UFC. He threw his name in the hat but unfortunately, the fight never materialized.
“Yeah, it would have been cool,” Lamas told ClutchPoints of fighting Conor McGregor. “He was a growing superstar in the sport, I really rallied to get that fight. At the time, when he was coming up around when he fought Dennis Siver before we got the title fight, unfortunately, didn't happen. I don't dwell on things like that, just wasn't meant to be. So that's it. I had plenty of other great fights against great opponents. I don't really sit and think about that one.”

Conor McGregor has the ability to use his trash talk to get into his opponent's head and make the moment in the UFC seem huge. Ricardo Lamas wouldn't have been worried about that.
“I'm the youngest of six boys. So growing up and getting picked on made me develop really thick skin, so I probably would have had fun with it, it probably would have just taken me back to my childhood. Like when my older brothers were making fun of me. With all of that, I kind of developed an ability to throw it back at them right away. So I think I actually would have had fun with it and wouldn't have taken it so seriously, and wouldn't have let him get under my skin the way a lot of his other opponents did.”
The build-up in the UFC would have been a lot of fun if Ricardo Lamas played into the trash talk and went at it with Conor McGregor. Stylistically the fight would have been really good with both men in their primes and willing to stand and bang.
