Bayern Munich remains at a standstill regarding the long-term future of Robert Lewandowski at the club. The Polish striker has one more season left on his current contract with the Bundesliga powerhouse, and he has yet to come to terms with club officials on a new deal.

From Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann’s perspective, he does not necessarily get the impression that Lewandowski is pushing to leave the club, and he much prefers to see him stay put.

“I have never had the feeling that he wants to leave,” Nagelsmann said ahead of Bayern Munich’s away league fixture against Arminia Bielefeld. “When we speak, it has always seemed to me that his idea is to stay. Of course, I would like him to continue with us in the future.”

As of late, Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a summer transfer move to Barcelona. The Catalan side is reportedly interested in signing the veteran striker as it views him as a “good leader for an otherwise young project.”

Ahead of Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg fixture against Villarreal, club CEO Oliver Kahn did note that the side anticipates Lewandowski staying for next season.

Lewandowski currently leads Europe’s top five leagues in goals with 32. He remains on track to win the European Golden Boot honor for the second consecutive season.
