The Houston Rockets will be without Brandon Knight for the preseason due to an infection in his surgically repaired knee.

“He's gonna be out for training camp and preseason,” Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said in an interview Monday, referring to Knight. “He has an infection that's clearing up. And then, at the end of the preseason, we'll have an announcement and re-evaluation just to see where he's at.”

Knight, now 26 years of age, underwent left knee surgery earlier in the offseason. The procedure was supposed to be “just a clean up,” according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. The guard initially tore his ACL last offseason and has had several setbacks, and now it seems he'll be missing more action due to this latest update.

At this point, there is no timetable for Knight's return.

In 382 career games played, Knight holds averages of 15.2 points on 41.5 percent shooting from the field (35.7 percent from beyond the arc), 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and just under one steal (0.9) in 31.3 minutes per outing.

The Rockets acquired Knight as a backup for Chris Paul in the deal that also brought in Marquese Chriss. Knight has fallen on hard times in his career, but he has been a productive NBA player in the past and could be a valuable backup if he gets healthy.
