The Kansas City Royals take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Our MLB odds series has our Royals Dodgers prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Royals Dodgers.

The Kansas City Royals entered Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers having lost six of their last seven games. It was a rough yet predictable turn of events for a young and very talented team which is trying to establish itself as a member of baseball's top tier. Sometimes, a young team puts everything together in one season the way the Baltimore Orioles did last year by winning over 100 games and capturing a division title. Could the Royals do that in 2024? It's not out of the question, though it also isn't likely. However, before a team can dream of 100 wins, it needs to make sure it wins 90 to 95 games and stamps itself as a legitimate contender. That is the more realistic and attainable goal for the Royals. Young teams have to go through adversity in order to reach that point. It is the nature of the beast in baseball. The 162-game season means that there will be bad weeks for 99 percent of teams. Once in a great while, a team navigates the marathon season without any true hiccups or prolonged slumps, but baseball usually has a way of humbling even its best teams and players for at least one week from April through September. The Royals were in the midst of their awful week. They couldn't allow a bad patch of play to lead to a true and total collapse.

They just might have saved their season on Saturday against the Dodgers, though only time will tell.

M.J. Melendez hit a two-out grand slam home run off Dodger reliever Blake Treinen to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead and a 7-2 Kansas City victory. The Royals didn't just stand up to the loaded Dodgers; they put a halt to their bad week and increased the odds that they will be able to stabilize their season and reach the playoffs, which would be an amazing accomplishment for a team which lost 106 games last year.

Why The Royals Could Cover The Spread

The Royals have covered the spread in each of the first two games of this series, so why stop now? The Royals are showing the resilience everyone was wanting to see from them. They're not a complete team, but they are showing a lot of resolve right now in the midst of the most brutal portion of their schedule. They just finished a four-game series against the heavyweight New York Yankees. They went straight from that series to a weekender against the superstar-laden Dodgers. The Royals have actually covered the spread in three straight games if you also include their Thursday game against the Yankees. This team has stabilized after its very difficult week.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover The Spread

The Dodgers are not a consistent offensive team. That might seem like a reason to pick against them, not to bet on them to cover. However, part of their inconsistency means that the Dodgers, after playing two or three subpar offensive games, will then let loose. This is a situation where Los Angeles should bust out. The Dodgers couldn't get the big hit on Saturday. On Sunday, things could be completely different. Having staff ace Tyler Glasnow on the mound should help them if they don't get off to a scorching-fast start.

Final Royals-Dodgers Prediction & Pick

The Royals are a good team, and the Dodgers remain inconsistent. Our official recommendation: Pass on this one. Wait for a live play.
