Ryan Tannehill threw his first pass of the season on Sunday, relieving Marcus Mariota in the third quarter of the Tennessee Titans' 16-0 loss to the Denver Broncos. Tannehill completed 13 of his 16 throws for 144 yards and an interception.

It's not clear what direction the Titans will go as far as the quarterback position is concerned next week, but Tannehill said all of the right things after the game:

“These things are tough, no matter how you cut it,” Tannehill said, according to Jim Wyatt of the Titans' team website. “I think the only thing that makes it somewhat tolerable is we do have a good relationship and we have a ton of respect for each other. I have a ton of respect for Marcus. It’s a tough situation all around.”

Tennessee acquired Tannehill in a trade with the Miami Dolphins during the offseason as insurance in case Mariota continued to struggle. Mariota was able to play well enough to hold on to his job through the first five weeks of 2019, but on Sunday, he went 7-for-18 with 63 yards and a couple of picks, leading to his benching.

Tannehill, who played his collegiate football at Texas A&M, was originally selected by the Dolphins with the eighth overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He spent the first seven years of his career in Miami, instantly becoming the starting quarterback during his rookie campaign.

However, Tannehill never lived up to expectations, and in 2017, he missed the entire season due to a torn ACL.

The Titans have gotten off to a 2-4 start and will take on the Los Angeles Chargers next Sunday.
