The New Orleans Saints may be targeting wide receiver Adam Humphries in free agency, according to Larry Holder of The Athletic.
Humphries is coming off of a solid 2018 campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in which he hauled in 76 receptions for 816 yards and five touchdowns.
The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Clemson University, went undrafted but ended up landing with the Buccaneers in 2013.
Humphries had a relatively quiet rookie campaign for Tampa Bay, catching 27 passes for 260 yards and a score while also returning kicks and punts.
The following year, however, Humphries began developing into a legitimate threat in the passing game, snaring 55 balls for 622 yards while reaching the end zone twice.
Then, in 2017, the Spartanburg, S.C. native finished with 61 catches for 631 yards and a touchdown.
The Saints have been rumored to have some interest in disgruntled Pittsburgh Steelers wide out Antonio Brown, but Humphries seems like a more realistic target and a rather fine consolation prize.
If he were able to put up those solid numbers on a Bucs team with a shaky quarterback situation, you would imagine he would flourish with Drew Brees in New Orleans.
The Saints won 13 games this past year and captured the No. 1 seed in the NFC. They then went on to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round of the playoffs before falling to the Los Angeles Rams in devastating fashion in an overtime thriller in the NFC Championship Game one week later.
New Orleans has now made back-to-back playoff appearances after three straight seven-win seasons.
