The New Orleans Saints think very highly of Taysom Hill and they are showing the lengths they'll go to keep him on the roster. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, New Orleans is planning to place a first-round tender on Hill.
Saints putting money where mouth is: they’re planning to place 1st-round tender on restricted FA QB Taysom Hill, per source, meaning NO will have a chance to match any offer sheet he signs with another team or get back a first-round pick. Saints plan to re-sign him soon anyway.

Last month, Drew Brees announced that he would be returning to the Saints for his 20th season in 2020. Besides needing to get a deal done with Brees, New Orleans is fixated on securing Hill long-term as well.
Unlike Brees though, Hill is a restricted free agent and by placing a tender on him, the Saints can match any offer given to him in free agency. On the other hand, if New Orleans chooses not to match an offer, the team attempting to sign Hill would have to surrender a first-round selection. Despite placing the tender on him, the Saints are confident that they'll get a contract in place with Hill before free agency gets underway, per Schefter.
First-round tender for RFA QBs is expected to come in around $5 million for 2020. But the Saints believe they’ll have a deal done with Taysom Hill before free agency, when another team can sign him to an offer sheet. https://t.co/PIYV8QxAsJ

As an undrafted quarterback out of BYU, Hill has made $1.6 million in his first three seasons in the NFL. But with a first-round tender, the Idaho native is slated to make nearly $5 million next season. Again, that could be subject to change if the Saints are able to negotiate a multi-year contract before free agency.
Even though he's listed as a quarterback, Hill has been used as an offensive weapon over the last two seasons. As a matter of fact, Hill has attempted just 13 passes in his short time in the NFL. At the same time, he's totaled 590 yards from scrimmage on 86 touches in the last two seasons.
Earlier this offseason, Payton made the assumption that there would be teams interested in prying Hill away from the Saints. However, the Saints are doing everything they can to prevent that from happening.
