The New Orleans Saints are in a dire situation when it comes to their quarterback depth chart. Already down Jameis Winston, who suffered a season-ending knee injury, the Saints have dealt with a recent COVID-19 outbreak that has sidelined both Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian, leaving the organization with third-stringer Ian Book as their starter. Before ultimately settling on former Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles, the Saints shockingly reached out to these two retired NFL legends.

That is wild. As they say, desperate times call for desperate measures. Sitting at 7-7 with both Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian sidelined, New Orleans couldn't afford to sit back and just let their playoff hopes slip through their fingers, especially with how talented their defense is.

That's why the Saints pulled a bold move and reportedly reached out to retired NFL legends Drew Brees and Philip Rivers with Hill and Siemian on the reserve/COVID list.

Boy would it have been cool for Saints fans to see Drew Brees run out of that tunnel again. Rivers voiced his interest in the Saints if they called earlier in the year when Winston went down. However, neither veteran wanted to step into New Orleans' less-than-ideal offensive environment.

Still, this tells fans just how serious the Saints are about winning. While it's not realistic to expect a retired Brees or Rivers to come back in and dice up NFL defenses again, it would still be reassuring for a team like the Saints to lean on their veteran presences, especially without Hill and Siemian.

If the Saints had their way, either of Drew Brees or Philip Rivers would be wearing a New Orleans uniform right now.
