Two weeks ago, Teddy Bridgewater thought he'd be the backup quarterback for the New Orleans Saints for all of 2019, barring injury. Then, Drew Brees sustained a thumb injury, and he was pressed into the starting job with a week to prepare for the Seahawks in Seattle.

Bridgewater's performance that helped the Saints win, 33-27, made coach Sean Payton “proud.”

As Payton said in the post-game press conference:

“I was proud by the way he played. He's someone — if you really follow his career — he's kind of won wherever he's bumped in. At a young age in Minnesota, he played this very same team, on the road, back in Minnesota in the playoffs in a game they very well should of won, if not for the field goal. So, he did that today.”

Bridgewater didn't scorch the Seahawks defense, but he was efficient and productive and ultimately won the game. For the game, Bridgewater went 19 for 27 (72% completion rate) for 177 yards and two touchdowns, no interceptions; good for a 112.7 passer rating. He also added four rush attempts for 12 yards.

After the game, Bridgewater chimed in on his performance, saying:

“It's a tough environment, it's usually tough to come in and play in. It's great to get that feeling of winning again and let's just try to continue to keep this thing going.”

Bridgewater will be the starter until Brees comes back from injury (expected six weeks). His next task is to beat the undefeated Dallas Cowboys at home in Week 4 on “Sunday Night Football.”
