New Orleans Saints versatile offensive utility player Taysom Hill presents an interesting hurdle for the NFC South franchise during the offseason. The 29-year-old BYU product is a free agent this spring and whether he deserves starting-quarterback money or not has come into question.

According to Hill, the multi-faceted Saints player sees himself as a franchise-caliber quarterback.

“I definitely view myself as a franchise quarterback,” Hill told Rob Maadi of the Associated Press during Super Bowl week.

“Do I want to leave?” Hill said. “The fact of the matter is no. But as you look at free agency, you have to find the right opportunity for you. You have to find the situation to take care of your family. I want to play quarterback in this league. If New Orleans don’t view me that why, well then I have to leave.”

While Hill says he wants to return to New Orleans, the free agent is still looking to maximize his value. More importantly, he'll be looking to maximize his bank account with teams bidding for his services come March.

Hill has gone 6-for-13 for 119 yards and an interception during his three-year career in New Orleans. Hill also totaled 234 receiving yards for six touchdowns during the 2019 regular season for New Orleans. He's also rushed for 352 yards for three touchdowns the past two years.

Hill has been helpful for head coach Sean Payton's offense. But his versatility could become a weakness during free agency as teams ask what position he plays. For one reason, he may not be agreeably seen as a franchise quarterback despite his own confidence.
