Everyone was surprised earlier this week when the New Orleans Saints reportedly named Taysom Hill the starting quarterback in Week 11 instead of Jameis Winston. According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Sean Payton prefers to start Hill so he can see what he has in the do-it-all quarterback.

During last week's win over the San Francisco 49ers, Drew Brees would take a hit while throwing a pass. The veteran quarterback would be unable to play in the second half with what was later discovered to be broken ribs and a collapsed lung.

When Brees went out of the game, it was Winston who stepped in for Brees, completing two of his four pass attempts. Given that, it was assumed that with Brees expected to miss an extended period of time, Winston would be the next man up.

However, despite the assumptions made earlier this week, Payton is seemingly going to make Hill the starter on Sunday versus the Atlanta Falcons. Even though he hasn't officially announced Hill as the starter, all signs point toward him being under center.

Regardless of the injury he sustained, it is likely that Brees is playing in his final season in the NFL. Therefore, the Saints have to begin seeing if they have his replacement on the roster right now.

Of course, before the season began, New Orleans gave Hill an extension that will pay him $15 million in 2021. With there being uncertainty surrounding the future of the quarterback spot for the Saints, Payton is hoping to see what he has in Hill at the quarterback position.
