The San Francisco 49ers have had no shortage of drama early on in the season. From Brandon Aiyuk's drama with coach Kyle Shanahan, to the murky running back situation with Trey Sermon's inactivity, to the stressful finishes to each of the Niners' first 2 games in 2021, the fun just can't seem to stop. Pair that with a 2-0 record, and it's all a San Fran fan could ask for to start the year.

Heading into a Week 3 heavyweight bout with the Green Bay Packers will be the Niners' toughest test yet, as the Pack bounced back from a brutal 38-3 drubbing at the hands of the Saints to take care of the Lions with ease in Week 2, a convincing 35-17 win.

With two of the most drama-filled teams heading into Santa Clara in what promises to be an epic Sunday Night showdown, here are 4 bold predictions for the Niners in Week 3 against Green Bay.

49ers Week 3 Predictions

4. Trey Sermon enjoys breakout game

Much has been made about Sermon's lack of usage through two games (one total carry), but it seems like Shanahan will have no choice but to unleash his third-round rookie in this contest. Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty are both doubtful for the contest with injuries, and Sermon has cleared concussion protocol. Against a porous Green Bay run defense, expect Sermon to run with a chip on his shoulder, proving the 49ers right for trading up to draft him with a Day 2 pick. 100 yards and a touchdown incoming.

3. Brandon Aiyuk finally explodes for monster game

Though Aiyuk has been virtually nonexistent through two weeks, coach Shanahan has continued to heap praise on the work he's been able to do in practice. As last year's first-round first pick by San Fran has struggled dealing with injuries and getting into a real flow to start the year, it's encouraging to hear that the coaching staff still believes in a player who flashed some of the biggest talent in years last season. Jaire Alexander will most likely turn his attention to Deebo Samuel in this one, which will require a big game out of Aiyuk. He will deliver.

2. 49ers pick off Aaron Rodgers twice

Though Aaron Rodgers had a nice bounce-back game against Detroit, his poor performance against the Saints combined with his historical struggles to have clean games against the 49ers indicate a potential rough game. The Niners' fearsome pass rush, led by Nick Bosa (two sacks last week), will force Rodgers into some mistakes early on with some complex looks and blitz packages.

1. Niners jump out to early lead, falter late

Despite breakout games and some early mistakes from Rodgers, the Niners simply don't have the firepower with Jimmy Garoppolo under center to pull away from a team as dynamic as Green Bay. As we saw in Week 1 when the Lions almost stormed all the way back to complete a 20+ point comeback, the Niners are prone to getting very hot and very cold. Though their hot streaks have prevailed more often through two weeks, the Pack will prove to be a wake-up call in Week 3 in a nailbiter.

PREDICTION: 49ers 28, Packers 31
