There is plenty on the line for Scotland in this matchup against Hungary. Hungary has a near-zero chance of advancing to the knockout stage, but Scotland can overtake Switzerland with a win in this match and some help with the goal differential. Scotland will also put itself in a position to be one of the third-place teams to cash their ticket to the knockout stage if they don't pass off Switzerland. It is time to continue our Euro 2024 odds series with a Scotland-Hungary prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

Scotland's tournament began miserably, losing 5-1 on the opening day to Germany. It didn't look like it would get better for them, facing Switzerland in their second match. However, they had a surprising 1-1 draw to keep themselves in contention. The ball is now in Scotland's court to try and get themselves into the round of 16.

Hungary was one of the popular picks to go through an upset run in the group stages, as many felt that Switzerland and Scotland could have troubles. It turned out that Switzerland had no issues with Hungary at all, out-chanceing them 15-6 and winning 3-1. Hungary then dropped their next match to Germany, which wasn't a big surprise, but it seemingly knocked Hungary out of contention to get through to the round of 16. Hungary's only motivation for this game now is to eliminate Scotland.

Why Scotland Will Win

Scotland will win this game with their midfield, as they hold the edge over Hungary despite Dominik Szoboszlai. All of Scotland's midfield plays in the Premier League, which gives them an advantage. Scotland sits back when playing superior opponents but will likely press against Hungary. Hungary doesn't do well when they get in a hole, as most of their success in qualifying came during positive game situations. If Scotland presses and gets up early, it could be trouble.

Why Hungary Will Win

Hungary could get a big piece of their midfield back if Callum Styles is available. They are unbeaten in 14 games when Styles is in the lineup, but an injury at the start of the tournament held him out for the first two games. If Styles draws back in, it helps to narrow the gap between the teams' midfield.

Don't look at Hungary's result against Germany and see a struggling team. They played Germany well and will defeat Scotland if they put forth the same effort. Scotland also lost a big part of their backline when Kieran Tierney injured his hamstring. The Arsenal defender held their defense together, and it could be a long night for them without him.

Final Scotland-Hungary Prediction & Pick

Hungary has a history of winning after going through the qualifying stages unbeaten. Dominik Szoboszlai hasn't scored yet in this tournament, as Barnabas Varga is their only goalscorer. They needed more from Szoboszlai and Roland Sallai after the first game, but Sallai was one of their best players against Germany. Sallai lost a goal because of an offside ruling in the Germany game.

Hungary has an outside chance of advancing to the knockout stage with a win in this game, and it feels like a game where they finally break out and pull off the victory.
