Seattle Seahawks rookie defensive back Coby Bryant knows all too well the legacy left behind by the late Kobe Bryant both on the court and off the court. In an effort to help uphold that legacy and carry on the “Mamba Mentality”, Coby Bryant is honoring the Los Angeles Lakers legend in a very simple yet meaningful way heading into his first season in the NFL.

Ari Meirov of Pro Football Focus shared a Tweet reportedly showing Bryant’s locker at the Seahawks training facility where rookie minicamps are taking place. Emblazoned at the top of the locker in synergy green is Coby Bryant’s name, and No. 8, the first number worn by the great Kobe Bryant. Additionally in the Tweet, it was mentioned that the No. 24 was already taken, which shows on the Seahawks roster as belonging to veteran defensive back Justin Coleman.

Coby Bryant would take to Instagram Friday evening to seemingly confirm the news, posting an edited photo of himself in a No. 8 Seahawks jersey, and a picture of Kobe Bryant donning the iconic No. 8 Lakers jersey with the caption “Vintage Coby”. Coby Bryant’s parents were fans of Kobe Bryant and so named their son after him per the Cincinnati Enquirer. They made the decision to change the spelling of his name so he could “carve out his own legacy.”

The former Cincinnati Bearcat is set to do just that, hoping to help revive a once-great Seattle Seahawks defense heading into 2022.
