While Seattle Seahawks left tackle Duane Brown was set to play in Week 1 even despite his ongoing contract situation, that contract situation is now no longer an issue. Brown and the Seahawks have agreed on a reworked deal to his liking just ahead of the start of the 2021 NFL season.
Details from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Adam Schefter
Brown was due $10M in salary and $1M in per-game roster bonuses, which are essentially guaranteed. He will be a 2022 free agent.

Also, Duane Brown will get an extra $590,000 for the 17th game based off his original $10M salary, I’m told, so with that, plus incentives, he should come in around $12M in total earnings.

Seahawks and OT Duane reached agreement on a reworked contract that maxes out at $12 million for this season, per source. The deal converts per-game bonuses to guaranteed money while getting an injury protection benefit for 2022.

Russell Wilson certainly has to be thrilled about this development. While Brown had recently returned to Seahawks practice after a lengthy hold-in, it’s even better news that he’s now going to be happier about his contract situation as the season starts. The left tackle is a key member of an offensive line tasked with protecting Wilson, so he needs to be playing at a high level. Wilson had previously made it a point that Brown needed to be taken care of before the season.
It’s going to be a crucial season in Seattle in 2021. The offseason featured plenty of Wilson trade rumors, but ultimately nothing came of them. Still, if the Seahawks struggle this year, that could cause him to revisit the possibility of asking for a trade out of Seattle.
Having Duane Brown back in the fold and happy should help the situation, and now the Seahawks can put all their focus on beating the Indianapolis Colts when the season gets underway this week.
