Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams suffered a shoulder injury in the Week 13 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, and now he's going to miss the rest of the season. Ian Rapaport of NFL Media reports Adams “tore his labrum and suffered additional shoulder damage” in the victory and needs season-ending surgery to fix it all.

It's the same shoulder Adams injured last season. The Pro Bowl safety is expected to make a full recovery for the 2022 season.

This is just another brutal blow in a season full of them for Seattle. While the Seahawks were able to beat the rival 49ers, the win only moved them to 4-8 in 2021. The Russell Wilson injury was a major setback earlier in the year, and they almost certainly will not be making the playoffs unless there's a miracle.

When it comes to Adams, Seattle's trade for him is backfiring in a big way. The Seahawks gave up two first-round picks as part of the package and then gave him a big extension, but he didn't produce nearly enough this season. After racking up a career-high 9.5 sacks last season, he didn't record a single sack in 2021 and only had two quarterback hits compared to 14 in 2020. He also only had four tackles for loss after racking up 11 last season, and he didn't figure in any fumbles.

That's just not enough defensive playmaking from a guy who was brought in to be a defensive playmaker. Seattle's defense has improved over the course of the year after a rotten start, but Adams himself just hasn't lived up to the billing after making three straight Pro Bowls and earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2019.
