Early Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks shook up the NFL landscape by trading Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. Tuesday night, the Seahawks were at it again. This time, releasing a future Hall of Fame player.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Seahawks are releasing eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Wagner actually arrived in Seattle the same day as Wilson, and now, they will potentially be leaving on the same day.

Clearly, the Seahawks are in full rebuild mode. In trading Wilson to the Broncos, the Seahawks landed a massive haul. The Broncos sent two first round picks, two second round picks, a fifth round pick, and three players in Noah Fant, Shelby Harris, and Drew Lock.

Fant is regarded as a borderline top-10 tight end in the league, while Harris is a young and very talented defensive lineman. Harris was one of the key pieces on Denver's defense, helping call out plays on the line. The Seahawks also receive a quarterback in Lock, who at the very least, is a capable backup.

Wagner was set to count for over $20 million against the salary cap entering the 2022 season. The Seahawks were already looking at having plenty of money entering this offseason. After releasing Wagner, they will have even more of it. But seeing as they acquired so much draft capital from the Broncos, it appears they are looking toward the future.

That means the Seahawks are not likely to use some of that cap space to go after big-name free agents. The future looks bright in Seattle, even if the present does not.
