The Seattle Seahawks are giving wide receiver Tyler Lockett a lucrative extension.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the Seahawks have signed Lockett to a four-year deal worth $69.2 million. The contract includes $37 million guaranteed, per Schefter.

The deal solidifies the receiving corps, with Lockett and D.K. Metcalf locked in as quarterback Russell Wilson's top options in the coming years. Might it also be a move that shows Wilson the Seahawks want him around for the long haul?

Lockett has been one of Wilson's most reliable targets. His receptions have gone up in each of the past five years and have seen especially large jumps in the last two seasons. He had 82 receptions for 1,057 yards in 2019 before hauling in 100 receptions for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2020. Lockett's 89.2 overall grade since 2019 ranks 22nd among all wide receivers.

Seattle has made a point of retaining offensive weapons.

The Seahawks re-signed running back Chris Carson after refusing to give him the franchise tag. Now, they have ensured Lockett will stay with the “12th Man” for the long haul.

That's good news for Wilson. There were plenty of rumors regarding Wilson's future in Seattle earlier this month. He even supplied a list of potential destinations in the event of a trade. But the Seahawks turned down a massive offer from the Chicago Bears and appear intent on keeping their star quarterback.

The next step figures to involve further addressing the offensive line, likely with multiple selections in next month's NFL draft.

However, Wilson can feel confident at the state of the offense especially with his top target signing a multi-year extension.
