The 2018 season saw New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady continue to prove that he's an ageless wonder behind another impressive campaign that earned him the MVP award over Los Angeles Rams Pro Bowl running back Todd Gurley.

However, Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl linebacker Anthony Barr voiced in an interview with Nick Shook of NFL.com that he believes there was another more worthy candidate in Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson that should have won the MVP honors in 2017.

[Russell Wilson] balled. His ability to extend plays and he never has help, and he's always able to somehow … He should have won MVP, I think, this past year. No offensive line, no running game, can't name three receivers on his team and he just makes plays.

Brady may have put together a phenomenal season at the age of 40, but Wilson certainly showcased his talent and how valuable he was to the Seahawks' success on the field in the 2017 season. He finished first in the NFL with 34 touchdown passes, ninth with 3,983 passing yards, and 10th with a 95.4 quarterback rating.

What was also equally as impressive was that he was the leading rusher for the Seahawks with 586 yards while no running back on the roster recorded more than 250 yards. Wilson also scored three of the team’s four rushing touchdowns this past season. His ability to make positive plays with his feet helped provide some sort of stability to their 23rd ranked running game while allowed him to keep plays alive behind their struggling play up front on the offensive line.

Wilson may not have had a serious shot to earn the prestigious award, but what the 2017 season demonstrated more than anything else was how important he is to the Seahawks' success on the field. He has developed into one of the top quarterbacks in the league that Seattle is hoping can be the centerpiece in making them a powerhouse in the league once again.
