As the 2022 NFL Offseason kicks into high gear, the Seattle Seahawks are among the main discussions of the league. This is mainly because the Seahawks are without a quarterback with the beginning of the 2022-2023 NFL season just a few days away.
Tuesday, the Seahawks traded franchise quarterback Russell Wilson and a fourth-round pick to the Denver Broncos. In exchange, Seattle received quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, defensive end Shelby Harris, and five draft picks.
According to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson will likely fill that vacancy. The Fantasy Footballers’ Matthew Betz tweeted the quote from Jeremiah’s most recent podcast.
.@MoveTheSticks on his most recent pod: “in talking to friends around the league the expectation from every single one of them is that when it’s all said & done Deshaun Watson’s gonna be the quarterback (for the Seattle Seahawks)”https://t.co/XMCc8ZSSUO

Watson is still signed to his four-year, $156 million contract with the Houston Texans. This year, Watson will earn a base salary of $35 million, with a cap hit of $40.4 million and a dead cap value of $51.2 million, per Spotrac. A trade between the Seahawks and Texans would be a winning situation for both teams. The Seahawks need to find a solid quarterback to replace Wilson, and the Texans need to drop the dead cap weight of Watson.
Many other teams are in the same boat as the Seahawks. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking for their replacement for legendary quarterback Tom Brady. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers are struggling to replace the recently retired Ben Roethlisberger. The team didn’t have to worry about the quarterback position for 18 years, since Roethlisberger was a reliable starter for the Steelers since he was drafted in 2004.
