Philip Rivers is possibly playing his final season with the Los Angeles Chargers as his contract is set to expire. With Rivers' future filled with uncertainty, should the Indianapolis Colts add Rivers in free agency?

During the third week of the preseason this year, the Colts were shocked to hear that Andrew Luck was retiring from the NFL. Luck spent seven seasons in Indianapolis and was able to deliver the franchise four playoff victories.

Upon his departure, the Colts were confident to name Jacoby Brissett the team's starting quarterback. So much so that Indianapolis immediately handed Brissett a two-year, $30 million extension before the season began.

In his first seven starts, Brissett was playing well with 1,590 yards, 14 touchdowns, and three interceptions. A knee injury would prove to be a bump in the road for the 27-year-old quarterback though.

Over his past five starts, Brissett has faltered as he's totaled 1,012 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. Above all, the Colts have lost four of their past five games after beginning the season with a 5-2 record.

As for Rivers, he is playing in his 16th season with the Chargers. Unfortunately for the veteran quarterback, he is beginning to show his age as he's had a disappointing season in Los Angeles.

So far, Rivers has thrown for 4,055 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. The 21 touchdowns are the fewest he's had since 2007 and the 18 interceptions are the most he has recorded since 2016.

Throughout the year, there have been internal discussions in Los Angeles on whether or not to bench Rivers. Ultimately, the Chargers have chosen to stick with their longtime starter as they enter Week 16 with a 5-9 record.

On Sunday, it was reported that the Colts could make a change at quarterback in 2020. In addition, Indianapolis isn't expecting Luck to make a triumphant return to the team next season.

Provided that information, Rivers could become an option under center for the Colts in 2020. But should Jim Irsay and Indianapolis make that a reality?

At 38-years-old, Rivers is nearing the end of his career. Should he choose to not retire after the 2019 season, Rivers shouldn't be considered an option for the Colts.

The Colts have a talented, young roster that is built for the future. From the likes of Marlon Mack, Parris Campbell, Malik Hooker, Darius Leonard, and the offensive line; the Colts are littered with future stars.

Therefore, Rivers makes no sense as the quarterback when Indianapolis begins their 2020 campaign. Above all, there's no guarantee that Rivers is an upgrade over the other option that the Colts have.

Instead, the organization should give Brissett an offseason as the starter. On the other hand, the Colts should consider bringing in another quarterback in next year's draft. Regardless of what the Colts choose to do, Rivers shouldn't be on their radar at all.
