Ben Simmons sure looked like he was fully recovered from the foot injury which cost him his entire rookie year during a pickup game he played in recently in Melbourne, Australia. Simmons put up 34 points in that game, including 17 in the fourth quarter.

The question, though, was whether Simmons had actual clearance from the Philadelphia 76ers to take part in such a game. Tom Moore of the Bucks County Courier Times confirmed that he did indeed have the team’s go-ahead.

The Sixers have been known to be overly cautious when it comes to dealing with injuries. Simmons was not allowed to play in Summer League this year even though it seemed like enough time had passed since his initial foot injury. But it appears Philly has finally loosened the reins on Simmons as the 2016 No. 1 pick prepares for his rookie year.

With Simmons likely to be ready for the start of the season, the focus for the Sixers should now turn to Joel Embiid, who is still on the mend after undergoing knee surgery in March to repair a torn meniscus. But unlike Simmons, don’t expect Embiid to be playing casual pickup games anytime soon as the Sixers will likely be even more cautious with their star big man given his extensive injury history.
