The Philadelphia 76ers are amped up to host the Brooklyn Nets Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center. This is the first time the two teams will meet since their blockbuster trade with headliners Ben Simmons and James Harden.
Danny Green spoke on the Ryen Russillo podcast Thursday morning ahead of the matchup. He discussed multiple topics, including the Simmons-Sixers saga.
According to Green, Sixers players would come up with hypothetical trades before they landed Harden.
“We actually threw some ideas out there of what could happen, of who we could get. Who would we get, who would you trade for, because we knew Ben wasn't happy there. So he wanted to find somewhere else, so we're like alright well who can we get for him?”
Green emphasized that the players came up with the possible Simmons trades because they knew he didn't want to stay in Philadelphia. The players knew that they were not in charge of these decisions, but they enjoyed playing pretend as Sixers' general manager.
“We did have some fun with, you know, playing GM scenarios…If we were, what would we try to get, who would we try to get?”
Green said that some players even joked about being traded within the Simmons package.
“A lot of us, we did joke around…like, you know, I'm probably going to be in that package. I won't be here, so it was good seeing you guys, that type of deal…joking about us probably being part of the trade.”
At the end of it all, Green was not part of the deal that sent Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets. Instead, they received Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and two future first-round picks.
