The Philadelphia 76ers have been adamant about their stance in not wanting to trade away Ben Simmons — not even for Houston Rockets superstar James Harden. Just recently, new Sixers president for basketball operations Daryl Morey's social media activity appears to have reinforced this position.
ESPN's Alan Hahn recently tweeted about why he believes it would be foolish for the Sixers to even consider parting ways with Simmons. Morey caught wind of the Tweet, and decided to send his stamp of approval by liking the tweet (h/t Adam Hermann of NBC Sports Philadelphia):
This could very much mean nothing, but it is also possible that it is a clear indication of Morey's unwillingness to trade his star point guard. Then again, this is Daryl Morey we're talking about here, and the high-ranking league executive has been known to make shrewd decisions in the past, so at this point, we cannot categorically say that a Simmons-for-Harden trade isn't going to happen.
It is also worth noting that Morey spent many years with Harden in Houston as the former general manager of the Rockets franchise. If there's anyone who holds the former MVP in very high regard, then it has to be Morey.
Whatever the case may be, Simmons still remains to be a Sixer at this very moment. On Sunday, the All-Star guard led a Joel Embiid-less Philly side against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Simmons finished with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks, while also turning the ball over six times, as the Cavs handed the Sixers their first loss of the season.
