On Thursday, Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons made his first three-pointer of the season. With four minutes to go in the first quarter of the Sixers' matchup against the Orlando Magic, Simmons received a pass from Joel Embiid and smoothly stepped into a three from the left corner.
Don't believe me? Just watch:
However, while NBA Twitter undoubtedly goes off anytime the Sixers star even considers launching a three, his head coach, Doc Rivers, wasn't making too big of a deal out of the whole thing.
“I could care less,” Rivers said on Saturday, via Ky Carlin of Yahoo! Sports. “I just thought it was in the flow of the moment and he shot the ball. I mean, that’s what he’s supposed to do. We didn’t have a parade or anything, I can tell you that. I just want Ben to be Ben and that’s what I keep stressing with him.”
The Sixers coach was then asked if he thought the three would give Simmons more confidence in his jumper going forward.
Simmons will never become half of what Stephen Curry is, but he'll surely contribute in a lot more ways for the Sixers.
Rivers' confidence on Saturday exactly echoes his sentiments from Tuesday, when he was asked if Simmons' lack of perimeter shooting is a hindrance to his development and the Sixers.
