Philadelphia 76ers big man Dwight Howard was involved in a rather peculiar incident during the Sixers' Saturday night bout against the Detroit Pistons. Howard literally got his shorts ripped in a box out sequence, but was still whistled for a foul, and for good measure, was even handed a tech moments later.

Here's a look at the play in question which obviously did not go in Howard's favor (h/t Bleacher Report on Twitter):

You could clearly see in the replay that the opposing Pistons player was vigorously tugging on Howard's shorts during the play, which resulted in the Philly center's uniform getting ripped. Nevertheless, it was still Howard who was called for a foul, and he was later assessed with a technical foul for complaining.

We're pretty sure that's not how the former Defensive Player of the Year winner envisioned his evening, especially after he made history not too long ago by passing the great Hakeem Olajuwon on the NBA's all-time rebounding list.

After signing with the team in the offseason as a free agent, Howard has been averaging 6.7 points and 8.2 rebounds in 17.8 minutes off the bench.

The Sixers came into Saturday's matchup following back-to-back wins against arch-rivals, the Boston Celtics. They get to face off against the Pistons again on Monday.
