It's safe to say no one is going to believe him, but Sixers second-year guard Markelle Fultz says the ball slipped out of his hand during his ugly free-throw attempt Monday night against the Miami Heat.

Markelle Fultz appeared to have a double-hitch on a free-throw attempt, causing Twitter to speculate that Fultz's shot has somehow got even worse.

Markelle Fultz literally can't catch a break right now. This is a kid who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. He was a monster in college. He had a pretty jump shot. What's happened to him and his shooting stroke is one of the strangest stories in recent memory, and it's sad from a basketball perspective.

The Sixers defeated the Heat by a final score of 124-114 to improve to 9-6 on the season. Markelle Fultz played 25 minutes and scored just five points. He was 2-of-8 from the field and 1-of-3 from the free-throw line.

Fultz entered Monday averaging 9.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists while shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from beyond the arc and 60.0 percent from the free-throw line. He attempted 13 shots from the 3-point line and made four. However, his misses have been way off the mark. Fultz is either airballing 3's or hitting the side of the backboard when he misses.

Is Markelle Fultz even healthy right now? He missed most of last season with a scapular muscle imbalance in his right shoulder. Something just isn't right with him, whether it's mental or physical.
