Currently sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference, the Philadelphia 76ers have played as one of the top teams in the league. Joel Embiid suffered an injury scare not too long ago, but since then has been back in the Sixers lineup.
Only being one game behind the first-place Brooklyn Nets, the Sixers are adding some depth in an attempt to control home-court advantage for the postseason. The front office went out of their way and acquired Anthony Tolliver, per Adrian Wojnarowski.
Tolliver has been a journeyman in the NBA, as he's played for 10 different teams before signing a short contract with Philadelphia, making the 76ers his 11th in his career. The 13-year veteran plays in the post, but it's his shooting that has kept him in the league. Shooting 37.3% from beyond the arc in his career, Tolliver adds range to the 76ers rotation.
A 10-day contract is essentially a try-out. However, with his experience, he has a good chance of earning a full-time spot on the roster for the postseason. The Sixers need shooters around Embiid and Ben Simmons. Tolliver provides just that.
Embiid is averaging just over 32 minutes per game this season. Philadelphia is bound to make the playoffs as well, but having depth in the post is going to be essential for the 76ers postseason run. If the team can play consistently while Embiid takes a breather on the bench, this squad would improve their chances of possibly winning an NBA championship.
The Sixers take on the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night, giving them a great opportunity to regain the top seed in the East.
