Ben Simmons has been compared to a lot of great NBA players before playing in even a single game.

One of those legends is Magic Johnson. Simmons' 6'10” frame and elite ball handling and passing skills make this an easy comp.

Simmons has played mostly as a forward that is also a playmaker in his career. Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown says he's going to give Simmons a chance to show what he can do as the point guard as well.

From Basketball Insiders:

“I can’t wait for the season to begin and all over the place I’m very, very excited to start our season,” Brown said. “I think [Simmons] is going to have some taste of [point guard] for sure. He’ll dictate that himself when he rebounds and leads the break.”

We don't see a lot of taller point guards these days. Shaun Livingston has done it a lot with the Warriors' bench unit and Jason Kidd gave Giannis Antetokounmpo a shot at it quite a bit last season for the Bucks.

Given the current construction of the 76ers, Simmons running the point might make a lot of sense. Jarryd Bayless is the most experienced point guard on the roster and then there are guys like T.J.McConnell and Sergio Rodriguez.

If Simmons can pull it off, it would allow for more minutes going the way of the 76ers' young big men, Jahlil Okafor, Nerlens Noel, and Joel Embiid.

For the first time in awhile, a lot of eyes will be on the 76ers, and Ben Simmons has everything to do with that.
