The Philadelphia 76ers still believe they are in play to sign LeBron James. Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports is reporting that Philly is strongly considering buying out Jerryd Bayless in order to clear cap space for James. A buyout of Bayless would clear enough space for the Sixers to offer LeBron a maximum contract.

Bayless could benefit from a buyout as well. The Arizona product fell out of Brett Brown's rotations last season and he may be looking for a change of scenery. The combo guard wouldn't need to wait long to find another team. He's a savvy NBA veteran that can bring some stability and versatility off the bench.

Philadelphia is positioning itself to make a strong run at LeBron James. His representatives met with the Sixers on Sunday, but James did not attend the meeting per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The four-time MVP would make the Sixers the immediate favorite in the Eastern Conference. James would be teaming up with budding superstars, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.

As it stands, the Sixers would not be able to sign James to a max deal. But Bayless could hold the key to clearing the space needed. Keep an eye out on this developing situation with Bayless because if the Sixers do in fact buy him out, it could be a signal that Philly is making progress with James' camp.
