Since its initial release, Super Smash Bros Ultimate has had a very consistent meta through the years. As the development team managed to balance out the game's roster from start to finish, surprisingly there have not been any new techniques that caused major shifts in the competitive scene. While a handful of techniques have been documented, such as Reverse Aerial Rush, Boost Grabbing, and more, many of these techniques are not completely unique to Ultimate, or have only affected the meta balance in subtle or nuanced ways. However, starting this May, a new era for Super Smash Bros Ultimate could be upon us, as one Smash Bros player named GimR claims to have stumbled upon a new technique that could change everything.

GimR is a Super Smash Bros competitive player who is a dedicated Game & Watch main, as well as a self-proclaimed “Video game scientist” who dabbles in the discovery and experimentation of techniques for several Super Smash Bros titles. While his previously discovered technique called “Phantom Footstooling” is a unique way of faking out your opponent from above, it has seen very conditional use in competitive matches.

Revealed during the Pound 2022 Smash Bros Tournament, GimR is seen in an announcement trailer, that was a direct parody of Warner Bros and DC's 2019 teaser trailer of the Joker movie, as he struggles to find new tech for the game.  Near the end of the trailer, GimR reveals a symbol on the wall in the shape of an infinity symbol, along with a reveal date: May 4th, 2022.

This infinity symbol could imply several different things, but the most common suggestion is that GimR could have discovered some kind of infinite combo loop. No one is certain except for GimR himself, as he has not spoken on any details other than it is a universal technique that all characters can perform. Let's just hope that this technique will do something to pull characters like Little Mac out of the gutter.

(It probably won't, but one can dream…)

GimR will be revealing this new technique for Super Smash Bros Ultimate on May 4th, 5 PM EST over at Twitch.TV
