Super Smash Ultimate player and “video game scientist” GimR has finally revealed his newly discovered technique to the Smash Ultimate community, and it's a surprisingly interesting tech that will undoubtedly change how top-level competitive play will be shaped within the coming months. This new technique has been dubbed “The Slingshot”. This tech takes the popular instant reverse aerial rush and wave bounce techniques and then adds an extra layer to them, allowing players to perform either move more effectively. In a nearly 30-minute video, GimR explains his discovery, while showcasing several different variations of the new technique, such as the “Flickshot”, “Holdshot”, and “Fullshot”.

Less than a day after the new technique was revealed, mid to top-level competitive Super Ultimate players started to the lab and practice the tech while gaining very interesting results. In a clip complication created by YouTube user Tiftofer, we can see just how effective the new Slingshot tech can be in various different situations, as players can now perform different aerial moves and specials with more safety, or access different combo paths that weren't possible before. Even though every character can perform this technique, some characters will be able to benefit from this more than others. Characters with low aerial mobility will benefit the least from Slingshoting as a defensive option, as their aerial attacks will still be punishable despite the extra spacing.

The overall public reception to this technique has been met with general positivity, as many players claim that this will be a serious game-changer. Other users have critiqued the technique as nothing unique or special, as some players have been instinctively performing these kinds of moves before it was widely known from GimR's reveal. Despite all this, now that the technique has been revealed, many have become hopeful that the meta will be spiced up a bit, as Smash Ultimate will not be receiving any more balance patches in the near future.
