Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo have had a very complicated relationship in the past two decades. In his first stint as a United player, he was undoubtedly at the peak of his powers, winning the club trophies year in and year out. However, things became rough in the second stint. He abruptly left the club last December because of controversial comments on Manchester United, which allowed the club to act decisively and terminate his contract.

According to the reports from Manchester Evening News, his relationship with Manchester United could become even more complicated with his latest actions. Ronaldo was in action for Portugal in the recent European qualifier against Slovakia. The Portuguese legend didn't get on the scoresheet but once again grabbed the headlines.

Ronaldo, as he always in, wants to get on the scoresheet by any means necessary. In search of a goal, he almost was sent off after he kicked Slovakian goalkeeper Martin Dubravka with his studs. The kick was extremely painful for the former Manchester United goalkeeper as he seemed to be in a lot of pain.

Ronaldo protested and apologized to the goalkeeper for his actions. After a few minutes of protest, he was shown a yellow card by the referee. However, the VAR showed that the former Real Madrid man was lucky to escape the red card as the stud went from Dubravka's chest to his face.

Manchester United's current captain, Bruno Fernandes, scored the winner as Portugal won 1-0. It was Fernandes' second goal of the season after the match-winning penalty against Nottingham Forest two weeks ago.
