As Liverpool continues to prepare for the 2022 UEFA Champions League Final against Real Madrid, club officials are already eyeing the possibility of signing Barcelona midfielder Gavi.

As noted by the Spanish-based outlet Sport, Liverpool is open to paying Gavi's €50 million release clause. The Premier League powerhouse has been “tracking” the Spanish international for quite some time now, and manager Jurgen Klopp is “impressed” with the talent as well.

Gavi is at a standstill regarding his situation at Barca, as he has a mere one more season remaining on his contract. Sport does note that the midfielder aspires to “continue” with the Catalan side, and he wants to see his agent come to terms with club officials on a new deal.

Barca club director of football Mateu Alemany recently confirmed that there is a mutual interest between both sides on this matter.

Barca president Joan Laporta did add earlier this week that Gavi’s agent has had an extension offer on the table for quite some time now. However, a recent report from Sport noted that Gavi's agent has not received such a proposal.

Gavi was a go-to midfielder for both Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernandez this past season, tallying for seven total goal contributions in 34 appearances in La Liga. He also notched a 1.1 tackles per match average in league play.

For now, Gavi is slated to feature for the Spanish national team in its upcoming June international schedule.
