Katie Meyer, captain and goalkeeper of the Stanford women's soccer team, was found dead earlier this week after being found unresponsive in her dorm room. Her tragic passing has been determined to be by suicide.
Katie Meyer's parents, Gina and Steven Meyer, were left stunned given that there seemed to be zero indication of any mental health issues with the Stanford star, at least from their perspective. They were even able to talk to her on FaceTime mere hours before the incident itself.
“She died by suicide,” said Gina Meyer on the tragic passing of the Stanford star. “The last couple of days are a parents' worst nightmare and you don't wake up from it. It's just horrific. She was excited. She had a lot on her plate. She had a lot going on. But she was happy. She was in great spirits.”

Both parents are still unsure by what exactly pushed Katie over the edge, but they suspect that emails over a disciplinary action against her at Stanford may have been what “triggered” her.
“This is the only thing that we can come up with that triggered something. … There is anxiety, there is stress to be perfect, to be the best, to be number one,” said Gina Meyer of the pressures Katie faced at Stanford.
“We're just struggling right now,” Meyer continued. “We're struggling to know what happened and why it happened, you know? We're just so heartbroken.”
The tragic passing of Katie Meyer happened just months away from her looming graduation at Stanford.
