Christian Eriksen has officially made his return to football, joining Premier League newcomers Brentford on a six-month deal. However, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has hinted at the possibility of a reunion for the Dane in North London, where he enjoyed a decorated career as one of the best playmakers the club has ever seen.
“We didn't talk about re-signing Eriksen. I am surprised about this situation… I thought he needed more time to come back, to play in England again. For Spurs, he is part of the story, and to come back here could be a good opportunity”.
Prior to joining Tottenham, Conte coached Eriksen at Inter Milan and built a great relationship with the midfielder. There was a belief that he may never play the sport again after his scary collapse at Euro 2020 last summer, but the Denmark international has trained hard to get in tip-top shape and now he's getting the chance to showcase his talents in England again.
Inter eventually terminated Eriksen's contract because due to Serie A rules, he wasn't allowed to play with a defibrillator in Italy. The 29-year-old made 226 PL appearances for Tottenham across seven seasons, scoring 51 goals and supplying an impressive 62 assists. We'll have to see how he adapts to playing with the Bees after a prolonged period away from football, but clearly, Conte isn't ruling out the possibility of the two reuniting with Spurs.
