The San Antonio Spurs look to make noise in the upcoming NBA season. After having several losing seasons, the Spurs have found hope. San Antonio drafted Victor Wembanyama with the 1st pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. The team wants their generational basketball star to be successful but is also making moves so he has backup. The Spurs are converting center Charles Bediako to a two-way contract, per Chris Haynes.

Victor Wembanyama gets another backup in Charles Bediako

Bediako joined San Antonio's summer league team after going undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. He then signed a training camp deal with the team in October. Now, he will be on a two-way deal splitting his time between the G-League and the NBA. The seven-foot center has great potential to help the Spurs paint presence.

The 21-year-old Alabama basketball product averaged an impressive 17.5 points, 17.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.8 blocks per 40 minutes of action in the Summer League. If all works out, he will split time with Charles Bassey and Zach Collins as a backup center for Victor Wembanyama.

Bassey is another young center the Spurs want to develop. In 14.5 minutes of action during the 2022-23 season, Bassey averaged 5.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and nearly one block per game. The third-year center saw solid playing time in the Spurs' preseason games. Of course, Zach Collins looks to be a mentor to all the young bigs and help impact the team.

San Antonio fans have much to be excited about for the upcoming season. The arrival of Wembanyama means the team will focus on enhancing its depth. With Charles Bediako getting a greater opportunity, the Spurs should have plenty of frontcourt potential.
