Keldon Johnson must be the favorite player of the Los Angeles Lakers right now.

The fast-rising forward missed what could have been the game-winner for the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies, bowing out by a hairline, 112-111. With the Spurs' loss, the Lakers now own the no. 10 spot in the Western Conference and are back in contention for the Play-In tournament.

Yep, at this point, the Lakers will take the littlest victory in any form (via Bleacher Report).

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich drew the perfect misdirection play, allowing Johnson to cut to an open lane and get a perfect pass from Devin Vassell. Unfortunately, Johnson's gimme lay-up rimmed out, allowing the Lakers, er, the Grizzlies to escape.

The Spurs dropped to 31-45, half a game behind the Lakers. That probably won't last long, though, as LeBron James will miss their game against the Utah Jazz on Thursday night. There is, however, some hope that Anthony Davis could suit up as he has been listed as doubtful.

It will be a photo finish for the Spurs and the Lakers as they jockey for the last spot in the Play-In tournament. They could both make it, though, if the no. 9 New Orleans Pelicans fall in the team standings. The Lakers will face the Pelicans in back-to-back games this week.

For now, the Lakers should be sending a bunch of gifts to Johnson.
