The Dallas Stars will attempt to stay alive, while the Edmonton Oilers will attempt to seal their first trip to the Stanley Cup Final since 2006. The two will face off on Sunday in Game 6 at Rogers Place. We're here to share our NHL odds series, make a Stars-Oilers Game 6 prediction, and pick while showing you how to watch.

The Oilers defeated the Stars 3-1 in Game 5 at the American Airlines Center to put themselves a win away from making the Stanley Cup. Ultimately, they struck first when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins came off a loose puck and put the rebound into the net for a powerplay goal to make it 1-0. Nugent-Hopkins struck again in the second period when he moved in for a shot and fired a wrister into the net for another powerplay marker. Later, Phillip Broberg tipped a shot to give the Oilers a commanding 3-0 lead.

Wyatt Johnston put the Stars on the board in the third period with a goal of his own. Unfortunately, the Stars did not have anything else left in the tank and fell short.

Why The Stars Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Stars continued to struggle to put shots on the net. Somehow, they only managed to fire 20 shots on the net. It seems that they have spent this entire series chasing the Oilers, even when they have done well in the faceoff circle. In this case, they won 51 percent of the draws. But they wouldn't hold onto the puck long when they won a faceoff. Then, they could not even capitalize on special teams, as they went 0 for 2 on the powerplay.

Defenseman Miro Heiskanen has six goals and 10 assists in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, he has slowed down, with just one goal and two assists in the Western Conference Finals. Jason Robertson also has six goals and 10 assists. Yet, after getting a hat trick in Game 3, he has done nothing since.

Jamie Benn has four goals and 11 assists. Likewise, he has potted one goal and six assists in the playoffs. But he has struggled in the faceoff circle over the past two games, winning six draws and losing eight. It's no coincidence that the Stars have lost both games. Meanwhile, Johnston has 10 goals and six assists in the playoffs. He also has put up three goals and two assists in the Western Conference Finals.

The defense did a solid job on even time, allowing just one goal. Additionally, they leveled 21 hits and blocked 25 shots. But the Stars also struggled on the penalty kill, allowing two powerplay conversions. Significantly, Jake Oettinger will need to play the best game of his life and comes in with a mark of 10-8 with a 2.25 goals-against average and a save percentage of .915.

The Stars will cover the spread if they can retain puck possession to generate more scoring chances. They also need to do much better on the penalty kill.

Why The Oilers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Oilers did not fire 35 shots. Yet, their 26 shots were enough. Edmonton managed to find a way to get the puck and create chances for their offense. Of course, it helped that their special teams were firing on all cylinders, as they went 2 for 3 on the powerplay.

Connor McDavid continues to be one of the best players in the world. Substantially, he has put up four goals and 25 assists in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. McDavid also has generated two goals and six assists in the Western Conference Finals. Now, he has a golden opportunity to carry his team to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and further cement his legacy. Leon Draisaitl has 10 goals and 17 assists. Likewise, he has two goals and one assist in the Western Conference Finals. It's important to note that the Oilers have won the games where Draisaitl has scored.

Defenseman Evan Bouchard has six goals and 19 assists in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Moreover, he has one goal and four assists after getting two helpers in Game 5. Nugent-Hopkins now has six goals and 14 assists. Similar to Draisaitl, the Oilers have won all the games where he has scored.

Their defense was on point, not allowing a goal until the third period. Moreover, they had 16 hits and blocked 25 shots. Stuart Skinner has continued to play well. Currently, he is 10-5 with a 2.59 goals-against average and a save percentage of .890.

The Oilers will cover the spread if they continue to maintain possession of the puck and get Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins involved. Then, they need to continue to limit shots.

Final Stars-Oilers Game 6 Prediction & Pick

The Oilers are just 3-5 against the spread over eight home playoff games. Ultimately, the Oilers have had one explosive game per series in front of their fans. They already had two games against the Stars at home, one being a 5-3 loss and the other being a 5-2 win. Meanwhile, the Stars are 6-2 against the spread over eight road games. For whatever reason, the Stars have performed better on the road during these Stanley Cup Playoffs. The last game is always the toughest to win. Consequently, the Oilers better be prepared because the Stars will give them everything they got. Expect the Stars to compete so ferociously that they are able to cover the spread on the road.
