The Pittsburgh Steelers are a different kind of beast this season. Historically speaking, the proud National Football League franchise is reliant upon Ben Roethlisberger and his incredible ability to have, well, many abilities. So far this season, it has been far more a team effort, with Big Bad Ben surrounded by elite skill position players on the offensive side of the football.
This, not at all shockingly, doesn't bother Ben Roethlisberger a single bit.
Here is Big Bad Ben talking about some iffy play from last week:
“I couldn’t tell you what I did,” Roethlisberger said, via Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I know I threw an interception. I know I threw for two touchdowns. That’s it. But I know we won the game. Honestly, isn’t that all that matters? Whether it’s pretty or ugly, don’t championship teams find a way to win the game no matter what? We’ve talked in the past that we haven’t found a way to win those games against teams that, on paper, we’re supposed to beat. Well, we won this one.”
If we want to be a cynic here, we can giggle at players going the “isn't winning all that actually matters” only after poor performances. Often, mostly from coaches and guys playing the QB position, guys will say that winning wasn't enough and that there are other areas that the team needs to improve on.
Whatever. No big deal. The good news here, at least if you're a Steelers fan, is that Big Bad Ben is adjusting to his slightly lesser-than role well. He's still a HUGE factor, but he is no longer the main guy. He's just now one of the handful of main guys.
