This offseason has been a busy one for the Pittsburgh Steelers so far. Their roster is beginning to look more clear after the conclusion of the NFL Draft, and they have added some intriguing pieces in recent months. Of course, the most notable pickups for the Steelers this offseason are Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, but former Steeler Bryant McFadden recently hinted at another potential weapon coming to Pittsburgh. That got fans excited as a lot of them feel like they are one more big signing away from having a lot of potential for next season.
Bryant McFadden played for the Steelers from 2005-2008 and from 2010-2011. He spent his entire NFL career in Pittsburgh except for one lone season with the Arizona Cardinals.
McFadden recently appeared in a Steelers Twitter space to discuss a potential weapon that the team was thinking about signing. He tweeted out that the Steelers are close to signing an “significant playmaker”, but the tweet has since been deleted. He still has ties to the organization, but there are some fans that have questioned McFadden's expertise since he hinted at this potential pickup. McFadden has since explained where he is getting his information from.
“The background of my tweet was I have a close friend who’s tied to the NFL” McFadden said, according to an article from Steeler Nation. “He’s been heavily involved in different discussions. He’s been hearing so many different things. He’s one of the first people that told me about the Justin Fields trade well before it actually happened.”
A deal can fall apart quickly in the NFL, and Bryant McFadden knows that. He went on to explain that his connection felt fairly confident about the potential pickup, but nothing is ever set in stone.
“That’s the type of relationships he has in the NFL,” McFadden added. “So of course you know my Steeler ties he told me that it seems like something could happen sooner or later… My friend felt like it was about 75% chance of happening but through negotiations things can literally fall through.”
Bryant McFadden apologizes for his tweet
This tweet obviously got Steelers fans very excited as another significant playmaker would go a long way for the team. Seeing the news come from a former player especially got fans' hopes up, but it doesn't look like that playmaker is coming to Pittsburgh. McFadden apologized for how he worded his tweet, and he also says that he still thinks it should happen.
“How I worded my tweet,” McFadden said. “I apologize if people took it like it was going to instantly happen. I apologize if people felt like I was playing with their emotions. Like I said, it was a tweet from what I heard. It wasn’t something that I wanted to create on my own… But I do believe and I think it should happen.”
McFadden certainly left the door open there and it sounds like he still stands by his take about this signing. We'll see if the Steelers do end up adding this mystery weapon that McFadden is talking about.
