The latest TJ Watt injury update may be the “best-case scenario” for the superstar Pittsburgh Steelers pass rusher, according to his NFL legend brother JJ Watt, but it’s not necessarily good news for the Steelers if they get into the NFL playoffs after their 17-10 Week 18 win over the Ravens.

“Best case scenario for TJ,” JJ Watt tweeted on Sunday after the game. “Grade 2 MCL sprain. Everything else looks pristine. Couple weeks of rest/recovery.”

Despite the optimistic note from JJ, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport painted a slightly rougher picture of the Steelers OLBs injury.

“Some good news out of the MRI. Grade 2 is better than Grade 3,” Rapoport added on Sunday. “Still a multi-week injury, but a far easier recovery.”

This does not bode well for the Steelers, who got a huge win in Week 18 against the Ravens to keep their playoff hopes alive. Pittsburgh still needs a little help to get into the postseason after ending the year 10-7.

With just one Sunday slate to go in the 2023 NFL regular season, there are two scenarios left where the Steelers get into the dance. They will play again next week if the Buffalo Bills lose or if the Jacksonville Jaguars lose.

If either of those things happens and the Steelers do get in, this latest TJ Watt injury update makes it seem pretty clear that the team’s best player will not play when the postseason kicks off next week. This is going to be a problem for Pittsburgh as their defense is the strength of this team.
