NBA stars are social media superstars who are known to start various trends. Ben Simmons started the ‘raise the cat' trend in Philadelphia, and LeBron James, possibly unwillingly, started a challenge after the Cleveland Cavaliers lost the 2017 NBA Finals. James posted a video of him working out three days after Game 5. However, many took the video as a new type of meme.
James had a very serious, focused face, and was playing ‘First Day Out' by Tee Grizley in the background. Grizley actually first started the challenge, and it soon went viral. A lot of NBA players took their shot with the challenge, most notably Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, there was a new submission to the challenge.
During the wedding of Harrison Barnes, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry mocked the challenge. Even more interesting than that, there was a peculiar face in attendance – Kyrie Irving. Irving, of course, is NBA's biggest story right now. After three straight Finals runs with LeBron, Irving is apparently ready to move on and has handed in a trade request.
There are many different ways this will be interpreted. The fact that Irving is laughing this much might mean he is mocking James, or at least enjoying that someone else is. However, he might take it as just some clean fun, and that can be a positive sign for Cavs fans.
