This year's iteration of Summer Games Done Quick (GDQ) raised a total of $2,909,764.35 from 40,359 total donations. GDQ is a seven-day-long 24-hour charity stream full of videogame speedrunning marathons. Proceeds will go to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders). The event ran from July 4 to 11, 2021.

GDQ is a series of charity video game marathons. It features high-level gameplay by some of the world's best speedrunners. Several different charities have partnered with GDQ over its nine-year history. Notably, they have raised over $34 million in total to date. GDQ usually runs two events every year. Awesome Games Done Quick is the winter iteration, usually held in January.

Summer GDQ this year was all online for the second year in a row, due to the pandemic. It featured a wide array of different games. Games like Dragon Age: Inquisition, Metroid Prime, Dishonored, Super Mario, and more. Participants played them to completion as quickly as possible through exploiting glitches and other techniques. An archive of all these runs is available at GDQ's official YouTube channel. The total amount raised surpassed Awesome Games Done Quick's total of $2,759,815.03 from last January.

One of the most impressive runs was Bubzia's Super Mario 64 blindfolded speedrun.  There are plenty of Super Mario 64 speedruns out there, but seeing someone claim all 70 starts without looking at the screen is in a league of its own.

The date for the next GDQ event has also been announced. Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 will run from January 9 to 16, 2021. It is possible that it might be an in-person event.
