The Connecticut Sun take on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Our WNBA odds series has our Sun Fever prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Sun Fever.

The Caitlin Clark WNBA story is just getting started. Because of the intense national coverage of the Iowa Hawkeye superstar, every game and every movement Clark makes become heavvily scrutinized. Therefore, when things don't go well for Clark, it might seem like the sky is falling. (Not the Chicago Sky, just the sky.) Yet, if we can all step back and take a breath, it's not some great existential crisis. It's nothing more than a bad WNBA team welcoming aboard a college superstar who simply won't have all the answers. Success in the pros requires a well-balanced team. The supporting cast has to be good enough to enable the star to function well and do the things she did at a high level in college.

The Indiana Fever do not have a roster which is good enough to enable Caitlin Clark to shine. This doesn't mean there shouldn't be some intense and urgent discussions about how the Fever should operate on the court. This doesn't mean the coaching isn't cause for considerable alarm just one week into the season. It does mean that we shouldn't be jumping to verdicts about Caitlin Clark's abilities or her ceiling as a professional basketball player. It's way too early for any of that. We can all see that Clark is in a less-than-ideal situation with the winless Fever and needs her fellow teammates to dramatically improve their level of play. Jumping to conclusions about Clark being overrated or somehow underestimating the WNBA is ridiculous and quite premature at this point.

Why The Sun Could Cover The Spread

Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are just not enough to correct what is going on with the Fever. This isn't a good team. It doesn't seem to have an especially good coach who is able to adjust her scheme to fit the talent on her roster. The Fever have looked like a team which is utterly without answers in the early stages of this season. The Fever haven't just been losing games; they have been losing games decisively. They lost by 11 to the New York Liberty this past Saturday. That might seem like a half-decent showing, but the Liberty led by 17 points with a few minutes left. The final margin was not fully reflective of how easily the Liberty won that game. The Fever lost to the Connecticut Sun last week by 21 points, 92-71. Connecticut could win by 16 fewer points and still cover. That seems like a good bet to make.

Why The Fever Could Cover The Spread

The Fever are desperate for a win. They are going to come out of the blocks with fire and intensity, spurred on by their home crowd. Caitlin Clark might not be getting the full level of help she needs from her supporting cast on the Indiana roster, but every now and then, Clark is capable of going off and having the kind of game which can deliver a victory by herself. She's Caitlin Clark, after all. Even if the Fever's role players aren't great, Clark could score 35 points and do the kinds of things we saw her do at Iowa. That would be enough to help the Fever cover the spread.

Final Sun-Fever Prediction & Pick

Caitlin Clark is going to continue to struggle, because she's on a team which isn't very good. Take Connecticut.

Final Sun-Fever Prediction & Pick: Sun -4.5
