Joel Embiid appeared on ESPN's The Jump on Friday and said that Deandre Ayton is, “About to get his a– kicked this year.” Ayton's Phoenix Suns teammate, Devin Booker heard Embiid's message loud and clear. He issued a short response, but his words speak volumes.

Booker is sticking up for his rookie here. Of course, this is meaningless preseason trash talk, but it has to be reassuring for Ayton to know that Booker has his back.

Embiid went on to talk about Ayton's potential and heap praise upon him, but the first line he says about Ayton is obviously the one that will get the most attention. It's clear that Embiid's trash talking is oftentimes done with a wink and a grin, but this can be used as motivation for a young Suns team.

Booker is recovering from hand surgery and he may miss some time at the beginning of the season. The good news for fans of NBA trash talking is that Booker should be back in time for the Suns' meeting with the Philadelphia Sixers on Nov. 19. The two teams square off in Philly and although the trash talking seems to be in good fun, there's no doubt that Booker and Ayton will be playing with something to prove.

Embiid and Booker are budding superstars and Ayton could be right behind them. The rivalry developing between these teams could be an interesting storyline to watch whenever the teams meet over the next few years.
