The Phoenix Suns have followed up last season's surprising run to the NBA Finals with an outstanding campaign this year. They own the best record in the NBA at 38-9. They are three full games clear of the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference.

Suns general manager James Jones previously stated the desire for the team to stand pat at the trade deadline, but rumors are surfacing that might not be the case.

Marc Stein referenced some rumblings that the west leaders might look to add a shooter to help the bench.

The Suns are arguably the deepest team in the NBA. They have nine players averaging double figures in scoring. You read that right, nine players. However, Cameron Payne is the only guard off the bench that has been a good scorer. Landry Shamet is shooting a woeful 37 percent from the field in his first season in Phoenix. He is also on hitting on 35 percent of his shots from downtown. That's something they were certainly hoping to get better production with.

Most of the production has come from the front court for Phoenix, outside of Devin Booker and Chris Paul.

DeAndre Ayton has continued to emerge and take a step forward this season. Backup center Frank Kaminsky has played well in 20 minutes per game off the bench. Even JaVale McGee has played well and been efficient. Adding a shooter to surround those bigs would make a lot of sense.

With a little under two weeks until the NBA trade deadline, it's worth keeping an eye on Phoenix to see if they strengthen their guard play.
